Workshop 1: Sense of Place

Aim of the workshop

  • Investigating the significance of the Adam Khan Tomb precinct for the locals. A community based workshop along with students of architecture, urban design, anthropologists, and sociologists to map the 'activity pattern' of the urban node.

Duration of the workshop

  • Weekend workshop

Structure of the workshop

  • The community members can be structured on the basis of different user groups; children, women, men and elderly
  • Students - multidisciplinary

Key Outputs

  • Skill set provided to the students - tools of mapping, presentation and citizen engagement
  • Urban awareness about their environs of the comunity
  • Small audio/video documentation
  • Booklet - documenting the process

Workshop 2: Sense of History - with community

Aim of the workshop

  • Invetigating the sense of tangible and intangible 'history' and its linked significance and relevance to the present for the residents of Mehrauli

Duration of workshop

  • Weekend workshops with the community or broken down into smaller sessions at different locationa and different community set (new residents, residents in traditional havelis, traders, etc.)

Structure of the workshop

  • The workshop might have to be broken down into smaller events at different locations. A common structure would have to adopted for sessions with different usre profiles.Ideally the community should also be encouraged towards 'cognitive mapping'.
  • Students can be engaged as facilitators and mentors too. A complete resource mapping of heritage resources (tangible and intangible) of Mehrauli should be developed prior to the workshop using secondary sources.

Key Outputs

  • Skill set of student participation: Citizen engagement, documentation of community processes, using art and media for citizen engagement
  • Cognitive mapping, plotted on scale on map of Mehrauli
  • Audio/ Video documentation

Workshop 3: Reading Architectural History

Aim of the workshop

  • The workshop would focus on 'how to read architectural patterns, geometry, style motifs, symbols and semantics'

Duration of workshop

  • Weekend workshop

Structure of the workshop

  • Workshop of multidisciplinary students

Key Outputs

  • Elevational study of two streets of Mehrauli around Adam Khan's Tomb
  • Booklet - measured mapping

Workshop 4/ Lecture/ Walk: Urban Ecology of Mehrauli

Aim of the workshop

  • Understanding the urban ecology of Mehrauli and unraveling its settlement patter. Detailed walk in Sanjay Van.

Duration of the workshop

  • Weekend workshop/ Sunday walk

Structure of the workshop

  • Would be a guided walk, discovering the hidden ecological determinants and resources of Mehrauli
  • Participants - open for all

Workshop 5: Stakeholder Mapping

Aim of the workshop

  • Mapping various stakeholders especially linked to Adam Khans Tomb and their conflicts areas

  • Activities participation of community stakeholders and multidisciplinary students
