Sanitation Improvement in Aya Nagar, New Delhi
The following note outlines the activities, time and resources required to design and plan a decentralized sewage treatment system at demonstration scale for the urban village of Lado Sarai, New Delhi.
The spread of unauthorised construction in our cities has assumed significant proportions. One such unauthorised colony is Aya Nagar, situated on the south-western edge of Delhi.
The architecture of Rajasthan is well-known and appreciated world-wide, primarily on account of its palaces and forts. The better known examples are in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, which are visited an enjoyed by tourists in great number from all over the world.
The Lado Sarai Urban Improvement Project has been launched in the community early this year. The project seeks to put into implementation mode the work of research and study done by Greha and Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC) over a long period of time.
A non-profit registered society, Greha, working with the residents of Aya Nagar, an urbanising settlement on the south-western edge of Delhi, approached the Delhi Government in 1999 to improve the physical infrastructure of the settlement.
